ACCESSIBILITY

For visitors living with disabilities, some access services are available. If accommodations are required, please call the Village office at (609) 898-2300 two weeks prior to your visit.

At Historic Cold Spring Village, we are committed to bringing history to you while respecting people living with disabilities and preserving the integrity of historic buildings. Please remember that this is a historic site and not all buildings will have ramps.

The Village buildings are staffed with interpreters who demonstrate and explain various crafts and trades, as well as relate the history of each particular building. Most of the buildings are small (only one or two rooms on the first floor); none of the historic building’s second floors are open to the public. Some have one or two steps at the front entrance; some are entered at grade or via an original ramp (such as a barn’s carriage ramp). Upon request, interpretive staff will present a short presentation on their building and/or craft outdoors. Service dogs are welcome throughout the Village and in all our buildings.

The Village Welcome Center is located at the Route 9 entrance to the Village, and is accessible to visitors in wheelchairs via a ramp near the rear of the building, which also leads to the accessible public restrooms, which are at the rear of the first floor (they may be accessed from the inside as well). A virtual touch-screen Village tour is located in the Welcome Center, along with an introductory video. Accessible restrooms are also located at the rear of the Village ice Cream Parlor, which are entered via a ramp along the building’s side wall. The Village’s Country Store and Old Grange Restaurant may also be entered via permanent ramps.

Various Village programs, such as musical entertainment and special demonstrations during event weekends, take place outdoors. The seating area for these programs is at grade and consists of movable wooden benches. There is no fence or barrier around this area, so auxiliary seating or a wheelchair may be placed in any convenient spot.

The Village’s two public entrances, at Route 9 and Route 626, are at grade and have no steps or ramps. Pathways throughout the Village consist of hard-packed clamshell paths or brick walkways. Parking areas include accessible parking spaces located closest to the entrances.
