Cape May Seashore Lines

Cape May Seashore Lines operates two types of passenger rail service. A regularly scheduled excursion service operates between the 4-H Fairgrounds Rail Station, just north of Cape May Court House (a short distance from the west entrance of the County Park and Zoo) and Cape May City. Intermediate stops are made at Cape May Court House and Historic Cold Spring Village. A charter train service is also available to individuals, clubs, groups, schools or organizations, with trip times and destinations tailored to each group's interests or needs. Special rates for groups of 25 passengers or more are available on all Seashore Lines trains.

The Chalfonte Hotel was built by Master Carpenter Colonel Henry Sawyer, a Civil War hero, who was captured and held by the South in Libby Prison. After a time, Sawyer was exchanged as a prisoner for the son of General Robert E. Lee at the urging of Abraham Lincoln's wife. After his release, Colonel Sawyer returned to Cape May and built The Chalfonte in 1876. The Chalfonte recently celebrated its 121st anniversary, and is a registered historical landmark.
