The Corson-Hand House

This house is typical of the small dwellings built in south Jersey throughout the 1800's; taller than its wide, with only one or two rooms on each of the two floors. A tiny "winder" staircase next to the fireplace connects the first and second stories. According to the US Census, Hand, a cobbler, lived in the house until the early 1840s, when he sold it because his family was growing . He and his wife, Rachel, eventually had seven children.
