The Blacksmith Shop |
Finley and Douglas were listed as master
craftsmen and suppliers of ironwork to
the shipbuilding trade from 1859 to
1989. Their shop was in Goshen, an
important regional shipping and
shipbuilding center in the 1900's.
Wooden ships required a great many iron
fittings for the mast, rudder and
rigging, and Finley's shop specialized
in providing these essential items. It
is likely that the shop also supplied
ironwork to local farmers. An account
book from a similar business of the era,
now in the County Historical Society,
shows an interesting mix of ship fitting
and agricultural tools
